BetVictor Enters Hungary With New Gaming License Acquisition

Strategic Entry into Untapped Market

BetVictor, the UK-headquartered sportsbook operator owned by GVC Holdings, has formally obtained a Hungarian gaming license and committed capital for a full-stack launch targeting the country's regulated market. The move comes as Hungary's gambling authority has progressively opened the sector to quality operators, creating an opportunity window before market saturation occurs.

The platform will integrate Kambi's sports betting engine and a curated casino vertical sourced from established European game studios. BetVictor has partnered with BUX, a Hungarian fintech firm specializing in iGaming payments, to handle local deposit methods including bank transfers and regional e-wallet solutions.

Localization and Compliance Investments

The operator has committed to building a dedicated Hungarian customer support team fluent in Magyar, with 24/7 operations spanning sportsbook, casino, and player care functions. Compliance infrastructure will exceed regulatory minimums, with monthly responsible gaming audits and player limits preset at conservative thresholds.

BetVictor's application cited player protection commitments and anti-money laundering protocols as differentiators from unlicensed competitors currently serving the Hungarian market. The Hungarian Gambling Authority approved the license after 18 months of technical and financial due diligence.

Broader Central European Strategy

Hungary is the third Central European market BetVictor has licensed in the past 24 months, following similar moves in Poland and Czech Republic. The operator's expansion reflects confidence that mid-tier European operators can compete against Tier 1 names (DraftKings, FanDuel, Bet365) in regulated niches by emphasizing localization and player trust.

Analysts expect 4–6 competing operators to obtain Hungarian licenses by 2027, compressed from the 12+ typical in mature Western European markets, meaning first-mover advantage is material. BetVictor's Q4 2026 launch positions it ahead of anticipated competitor filings in Q1 2027.
