DraftKings Launches Live Dealer at Sportsbooks Across North America 2026

Sportsbook Meets Casino Floor

DraftKings is collapsing the traditional boundary between sportsbooks and casino verticals, embedding live dealer games directly into its sportsbook application interface. The integration, announced September 23, represents the latest escalation in multi-vertical monetization strategies reshaping the North American iGaming landscape.

Launching in Pennsylvania and New Jersey this week, the feature allows users to switch between live betting on NFL games and live blackjack or roulette without navigating separate applications. Evolution Gaming's live dealer infrastructure powers the experience, maintaining stream quality and compliance across state lines.

Strategic Rationale

DraftKings' rationale is straightforward: sportsbook users with active sessions represent a captive audience for casino products. Internal analytics suggest approximately 22% of users engaging with sportsbooks express interest in casino games when presented with seamless in-app access, versus 8% conversion when casino requires separate app download.

The economics are compelling. Casino products carry significantly higher player lifetime value than sportsbooks, with average revenue per user 3-5x higher depending on jurisdiction. By converting even a fraction of sportsbook players to regular casino users, DraftKings expects casino revenue contribution to rise from current 12% to 18-22% of total gaming revenue within 12 months.

"We're meeting customers where they already are," said DraftKings CEO Jason Robins in a prepared statement. "The competitive advantage belongs to operators who can deliver frictionless multi-vertical experiences."

Regulatory Navigation

The integration required separate licensing approvals in each state. Pennsylvania's Gaming Control Board approved the integration under existing casino license amendments, while New Jersey's Division of Gaming Enforcement conducted additional review to ensure responsible gaming features—deposit limits, session time warnings, self-exclusion tools—function identically across verticals.

DraftKings implemented unified account fund management, meaning a player's casino balance and sportsbook balance draw from the same wallet, simplifying fund movement but creating additional compliance complexity around player fund segregation.

Competitive Positioning

FanDuel and BetMGM have explored similar cross-platform strategies, but DraftKings' execution is the first to achieve seamless in-app integration at scale. Caesars Entertainment has prioritized separate apps, viewing vertical segregation as more controllable from a responsible gaming perspective—a position that may face pressure if DraftKings' approach proves commercially successful.

Rollout Timeline

Following Pennsylvania and New Jersey validation, DraftKings plans expansion to Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Colorado by January 2027. The company is also exploring live dealer integration into its Canadian Sportsline offering, pending Ontario regulatory approval.

Internal testing has flagged potential issues around live dealer bandwidth management during peak sports events—when sportsbook traffic spikes, corresponding player interest in live dealer sometimes does as well, creating server load management challenges that Evolution's infrastructure will need to address through dynamic load-balancing protocols.

Player Experience Design

DraftKings has invested in interface design minimizing friction. Live dealer games appear as a tab alongside traditional casino verticals (slots, table games) and sportsbook betting slips. Streaming quality automatically adjusts based on connection speed, with 1080p as standard and 720p fallback for mobile connections below 5 Mbps.

Responsible gaming integrations are comprehensive: players can set separate deposit and loss limits for casino versus sportsbook, and session time warnings apply independently to each vertical despite unified fund access.
