DraftKings delivered its strongest quarterly performance to date in Q3 2026, reporting $1.47 billion in revenue—a 28% increase year-over-year—while achieving significant operating margin expansion. The results underscore the operator's transition from growth-at-any-cost to profitable scaling.
Sports betting handle increased 34% YoY to $9.2 billion, with the NFL season accounting for approximately 42% of total handle. The operator benefited from new market entries in Kansas and Maryland, as well as market share gains in established states like New York, New Jersey, and Illinois.
Operating margins expanded to 18.7%, up from 14.3% in Q3 2025, driven by improved unit economics and reduced customer acquisition costs as brand recognition matured.
Guidance Raise and Capital Allocation
DraftKings raised full-year 2026 guidance to $5.8 billion in revenue (up from $5.6 billion), citing accelerating state market authorizations and operational leverage from shared technology platforms across jurisdictions.
The operator also announced a $500 million share buyback program, signaling confidence in intrinsic value and a transition toward returning capital to shareholders. This marks a maturation of the company's capital allocation strategy.
CEO Jason Robins noted on the earnings call that profitability had become a primary focus: "We've moved past the stage where volume growth at any margin is acceptable. Every new market entry is evaluated on unit economics and path to positive EBITDA."
Market Implications
DraftKings' results set a benchmark for the consolidated sportsbook market. Competitors including FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars Sportsbook are expected to report similar margin expansion trajectories in coming quarters.
The strong results suggest that the U.S. sportsbook market is stabilizing around 4-5 dominant national operators plus regional players. Consolidation likely continues over the next 18-24 months as smaller operators struggle to compete on brand recognition and technology scale.
Longer-term, market maturation may drive consolidation to 2-3 dominant players, similar to the online poker market post-2011.
