SBC Barcelona Breaks Records, Announces 2027 Dual-City Expansion 2026

Market Maturation Demands Expansion

SBC's decision to launch a dedicated North American event reflects the iGaming industry's demographic and commercial rebalancing. For the first time, combined North American regulatory markets (Ontario, Colorado, New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and emerging state markets) generated higher operator revenues than traditional European strongholds during H1 2026.

The Barcelona event attracted representation from 127 countries, but 34% of attendees travelled from North America—a proportion that organisers noted creates logistical and content challenges. Splitting the conference into region-specific events allows both the Barcelona and Las Vegas gatherings to optimise their programming and scheduling for local audiences.

Strategic Positioning

SBC Barcelona 2026 maintained its position as Europe's largest iGaming conference, with 340 exhibitor booths (up from 268 in 2025) and 120 speaking sessions. Keynote coverage focused heavily on European regulatory evolution, including extensive discussion of upcoming UK affordability checks, German licensing reforms, and Italian market dynamics.

The Las Vegas event (May 8-10, 2027) will run parallel to iGB North America and position SBC as the industry's only truly bifurcated global conference series. Organisers suggest the May timing allows operators to showcase H1 2027 performance data and announce second-half product launches.

Operator Budget Allocation Challenges

The dual-city announcement immediately triggered speculation about event cannibalization. Companies that historically allocated marketing budgets to a single annual SBC appearance now face pressure to maintain presence at both locations. This creates financial burden on mid-sized operators while benefiting SBC's parent company through expanded sponsorship opportunities.

Major operators including DraftKings, FanDuel, and Entain have already committed to exhibiting at both 2027 events. Smaller operators and emerging vendors are expected to make more selective choices based on geographic focus and marketing budgets.

SBC has committed to maintaining distinct content tracks: Barcelona will prioritise European regulatory, compliance, and market expansion topics, while Las Vegas will emphasise North American state licensing, tribal partnerships, and sports betting market dynamics.

The 2027 conference calendar now presents operators with a significant scheduling and budgeting decision: both SBC events, existing regional conferences (iGB Affiliate, ICE London), and numerous operator-specific summits will compete for attendance and sponsorship investment.
